Enchantment
Collaborative event with DISC, New Rope and Ehrl Bielicky
1 April 2025, 6–8 pm
gta exhibitions, Foyer, ETH Zurich, Hönggerberg
DISC casts an enchanting spell over the gta lobby for 25 hours, bathing the space in flickering projections, soundscapes, and fleeting illusions. The lobby transforms into a one-night-only magic show for the launch of DISC’s latest issue: Enchantment. With manipulated live streams, food, drink, and music, the event appears—and vanishes—like a trick of the light.
DISC is an experimental publication that explores media, technology, and environments through themed books, events, and products. DISC is editorially independent, para-institutional, and guided by an ever-changing advisory circle.
Issue 3.0 of DISC asks, “Where has the magic gone?” In the anxious context of our present, made up of never-ending crises and widespread estrangement, we have left little room for that which enchants us. As Toni Morrison pointed out, “It’s not possible to constantly hold on to crisis. … you have to have the magic. That’s also life.” The issue investigates varied enchantments from various angles: revealing the techniques behind an illusion, reveling in magical atmospheres, and re-illuminating subjects that have lost their mystery and interest.
Issue 3.0 “Enchantment” features work by: Alice Bucknell, Animali Domestici, Anisa Olufemi & R. Treshawn Williamson, Annmagrit Möller, ANY—Michael Abel & Nile Greenberg, Ayana Zaire Cotton, Bailey Keogh, Ben Denzer, Claire Djang, Clement Valla, clovisbaronian, Cyrus Peñarroyo, Departamento del Distrito, DRAWINGS—William Smith & Daniel Garcia, Edgar Rodríguez & Sander Verbeek, Eilis Finnegan, Eric Lawler, Feifei Zhou, Felix Ansmann, Harry Nuriev & Ilana Curtis, Inga Danysz & Tomi Laja, Jonathan Levine & Jennifer Newsom & Tom Carruthers, Joseph Zeal Henry, Kennedy Yanko & Camille Bacon, Kevin McCaughey, Kevin Moultrie Daye & Ahya Simone & Imani Day & Harmonia Rosales, Lauda Virginia Vargas, Lily C Wong, Lindsey Krug, Liza Walling, Marius Oneta, Marya Kanakis, Matīss Groskaufmanis, Michael Young, Noa Mori, Sarah Aziz, Shane Reiner-Roth, Shant Charoian, Sharmain Siddiqui, soft-firm - Lexi Tsien, Stephanie Choi, Valentin Bansac & Alice Loumeau, Vere van Gool, and Will Fu
